Re: Yarn updates unlikely

Here in list.yarn, mrhuey@wizvax.wizvax.net (Ramsay D. Seielstad)
spake unto us, saying:

>I think the bottom line everyone appears to be discounting as a

>possibly Chin may have other more important responsibilities or
>priorities in his life at this time.

Actually, I am mostly assuming this is true (particularly in the light
of his apparent focus shift to the 32-bit Windows platform).

>Since the last update, maybe things have changed in Chin's life

Yes, that is true. However, a very simple short note to the list would
address most of the frustrations and uncertainties I've seen expressed
here, I think. Though it's possible he isn't sure himself and doesn't
want to make a committment either way.

I also think there is more than one person present who would be willing
to shoulder the load if he were willing to release the source to another
party to continue the product's development. That would involve very
little effort on his part (though in some ways it would admittedly be a
fairly large concession).

Very true. As soon as I become conversant enough in C to tackle the
problem, I suspect I'll be looking at writing a clone of Yarn myself
for the Linux platform. That time is a ways off, since I'm literally
just starting to learn C (I'm a corporate Fortran programmer), but if
there is no movement from Chin or others it *will* happen. :-)

I agree that his position needs to be respected. I just wish that I
knew what his position was.
