I think the bottom line everyone appears to be discounting as a
reason for Chin's silence, or upgrading YARN, is that quite
possibly Chin may have other more important responsibilities or
priorities in his life at this time. I have not had contact
with Chin for a couple of years since I had asked a question
concerning his software, which he graciously answered (although,
I do have to admit the answer was staring me in the face the
whole time.)
Since the last update, maybe things have changed in Chin's life
to such a point where he does not have the time to continue
developing or bettering YARN. For instance, maybe Chin graduated
from college and has become employed; maybe Chin has married and
has other family responsibilities to attend to; maybe (god forbid)
there has been a personal family tragedy ... We have to remember
these issues require a significant chunk of our attention and
priority before our hobbyist activities.
The other issue we need to respect is Chin's Intellectual property.
Chin spent considerable painstaking hours to contribute a debugged,
working quality piece of software to the OS/2 community. Further,
adamantly refusing to accept a penny for his efforts! Chin has no
obligation to release the source to anyone, for any reason, whether
he plans to continue development or not.
Let's let Chin have his 15 minutes of fame and not berate him
for not living his fame the way we want him to.
(BTW Chin, if you're reading ... YARN is still the ONLY piece of
software I still use regularly for its simplicity, ease of use,
and functionality ... and would still be worth ten times every
penny you felt worthy of charging for it! I hope everything is
okay and working out well for you, whatever the reason you are
unable to participate with us.)
