I doubt there is any practical limit to the news.dat -- except memory
(maybe, depending) and disk space (for sure). But of course, I don't really
know. Yarn of course checks all imported articles against every other
messages ID already in the news.dat -- no duplicates allowed... so
naturally the more messages you have the exponentially longer amount of
time it will take to import new messages...
btw - after that email i sent to you (why didn't i think of it before?) I
sent some messages to our local news server with "supersedes:" headers, so
finally got some Msg ID's in my supersed.pag!
And it looks all clear -- there are no offsets stored in there -- so the
http://www.io.org/~tm/files/yarnpack.exe program should be safe, I think...
anyhow, it works here. (-: If expire (any options) runs with no errors,
yarnpack should be safe to run afterwards... no guarenties of course. Heh.
My stunning display of self-confidence must have everyone completely
re-assured as to the safety of this program. (-;
