The UNIX mailbox format is braindead and should never have been
invented. There are better ways to store mail (MMDF to name one, or
using Content-Length or Lines headers to determine the length),
but unfortunately mailbox format is still in wide use.

Problem is, the systems which use mailbox format are probably not
systems where Q-P support is installed. If the admin is smart enough
(or able to) install Q-P support, he'd install a better mailbox
storage format.
