According to the manual, it expects mail to be in UNIX mailbox format
and news to be in rnews format.

UNIX mailbox format is really simple. All messages begin with the
string "From mail@address date" and do not contain lines starting
with "From ". If any such line occurs in the text, it is escaped
by putting ">" in position 0 of that line.
In short, if you're lucky you can just download your UNIX mailbox
and use import -r on it to convert it to Yarn format.

rnews format is basically "#!rnews bytes\n" where 'bytes' is the
number of bytes in the article starting on the next line. See
the SOUP documentation for details.
