Alternatively you could try a little reverse psychology on
yourself. Use the editor that comes standard with UNIX
systems. It's called "vi". After a week you'll realize how
wonderful the DOS editor really is.
I think it is fair to say that Qedit is the standard for text
editors. Small, fast, extremely configurable etc. Qedit has
a big brother (which I am using) called TSE which includes a
spelling corrector. It has text, hex and binary modes, will
open hundreds of files at a time and will open files of up to
64 Megabytes (or maybe larger) in size. (I'm not sure what
the limits of the current version of Qedit are).

Lot's of people like Boxer too, although I think it's garbage.
You can find these (and MANY other editors) at any SIMTEL
site. The main SIMTEL site is at ftp.coast.net. (I did not
include the complete listing of text editors available there
because exessively long post usually earn me nasty notes)
If you ftp to ftp.coast.net you will get a mirior site
instead, three times out of four, but once you find SimTel the
rest of the path will be OK.
