"Endless" article

Occasionally I hit Enter to read an article in a newsgroup, and
find that it's
1. the wrong group
2. endless -- it's lots of articles strung together, going
on and on, through different newsgroups, no beginning or end.
I figure this is some corruption within the file. I just erase
the article and go on, and things seem OK. What causes it, and
is there anything else I can do? Am I losing something?
