is uqwk quick?

To me it's fairly clear that the main strategy for making an
offline newsreader efficient is minimizing the number of actual articles
that must be downloaded to your PC. It is the huge quantity of articles
that takes up disk space on the news server, and would take years to
download via zmodem, ftp, http or whatever.

In this regard, I like to review subject headers, to select articles
to download. Uqwk seems to take quite a while (in summary mode) to
produce a list of subject headers for a large news group. Does anyone
know if uqwk uses the XOVER file(s) to create a list of headers, or
does it open each article (each file) and grab its header?

trn, for instance, seems to produce headers a lot faster than uqk, and it
does use XOVER.
