2004.03.03 Shell.Vex.Net O/S Change Coming

A big change is heading shell.Vex.Net's way. Now that we have migrated our main servers to FreeBSD, it is shell.Vex.Net's turn.

Most shell users should not actually notice any difference. But, a few of you will have some adjustments to make: namely, any binaries that users have compiled themselves will have to be rebuilt on the new O/S.

The good news is that nshell.vex.net is up and running, and ready to start being used right away. All shell users are free to login via ssh (telnet and ftp is not enabled yet, but will be soon) and test things out. All home directories are mounted remotely on the server, so it will be exactly like logging in to shell.vex.net. In fact users who are so inclined are encouraged to use nshell.vex.net as much as possible now rather than shell.vex.net so it can be well tested and any oddities found before the final switch.

nshell.vex.net is still being worked on, so not everything on shell is available there; but most things are. The few things not yet there will be enabled soon. To check out what software is installed use the "pkg_info" command.

The final switch over probably won't be until the end of next week (around the 20th). We will announce a more specific time as it gets closer.

If you need any help, or have any questions, email support@Vex.Net, as always.

Good Words
from our Clients

Vybe Network's technical staff are second to none. They are always responsive and able to solve any issue my company was able to create for ourselves!

Courteous, friendly staff, and great pricing. What more can a business ask from their provider? I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Vybe Networks to anyone that will listen.
