2001.06.19 Emergency Down Time Explained

Between 1:15 and 2:15 am this morning the web server was taken down. The system had been behaving erratically, so hardware needed to be tested. We positively identified bad RAM as the culprit and hastily replaced it (doubling the amount in the machine while we were at it). The web server is back up and should be running smoothly again. While we were at it we took the shell server down very briefly to replace a previously discovered malfunctioning floppy drive.
